Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held a phone talk with Celso Amorim, special advisor to the Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva on Wednesday, reported gov.cn.
During the phone call, Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said that under the strategic guidance of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Brazilian President Lula, China and Brazil are working together to advance the building of a community with a shared future for a more just world and a more sustainable planet. This reflects their shared vision and sense of responsibility, as major developing countries, in promoting a multipolar world, upholding international rules and order and defending global fairness and justice.
Wang noted that China firmly supports Brazil in safeguarding its national sovereignty and dignity and opposes unreasonable external interference in Brazil's internal affairs. China firmly supports Brazil in protecting its development rights and interests and resisting bullying use of tariff measures. China firmly supports Brazil in consolidating the unity and cooperation of the Global South through the BRICS mechanism and promoting the collective strength of developing countries. Using tariffs as a weapon to suppress other countries violates the UN Charter, undermines WTO rules and is both unpopular and unsustainable, he said.
China is willing to work with Brazil to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, deepen China-Brazil cooperation, enrich the strategic substance of the China-Brazil community with a shared future and jointly counter external uncertainties with the stability and complementarity of bilateral cooperation, Wang added.
Amorim said that President Lula's friendly engagement with President Xi highlights the importance of the China-Brazil community with a shared future. The deep friendship, strong mutual trust and fruitful practical cooperation between Brazil and China are truly commendable. Brazil is willing to work with China to implement the leaders' consensus and deepen cooperation in trade, finance and other fields.
The US imposition of high tariffs on Brazil undermines normal economic and trade relations and interferes in Brazil's internal affairs, which Brazil firmly opposes. Amorim stressed that Brazil appreciates China's steadfast support and is willing to work with China to strengthen and develop the BRICS mechanism, strengthen the unity and self-reliance of the Global South, and uphold international fairness and justice.
The two sides also exchanged views on the Ukraine crisis. Wang said that China and Brazil can maintain communication and work together to further consolidate the Global South's consensus on a ceasefire, cessation of hostilities, and promotion of peace talks through the "Friends for Peace" group, contributing to a political resolution of the crisis.
